CHERISH A COMPELLING FAMILY TALE
THE Rondo Theatre is staging the play Cherish, by awardwinning playwright Ken Duncum, with eight shows from April 29 to May 8.
Rondo Theatre producer Kim Greaves said Cherish was “an honest and compelling story of two queer couples and the family they share, provoking the audience to consider the complexities of surrogate parenthood”.
“Jess and Maeve each have a daughter fathered by Tom, whose long-term partner is William,” she said.
She said director Lynn Cropp’s minimalistic approach to staging allowed the audience to focus on the vulnerable, delicate and increasingly futile relationships between the characters.
The play was awarded best New Zealand play in 2003.
Ms Greaves said it was an intriguing ensemble piece.
She said the Rondo, which has a long history, was known for its diverse annual season of plays sourced from Australian and international playwrights and presented in an intimate setting.
