Judge agrees to reduce Hayne’s reporting rules
FORMER NRL star Jarryd Hayne will now only have to report to police one day a week, as opposed to three, after a judge accepted his request on Friday.
He faces a yearlong wait for his third sexual assault trial after a judge refused his application for the proceedings to be held in Newcastle.
The reviewed conditions will require Hayne (pictured) to report to Merrylands Police Station each Friday between 5am and 10pm.
The former Dally-M winner was last year found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman at her Newcastle home on NRL grand final night in 2018. He has twice faced a jury over the allegations – his first trial in late 2020 ended in a hung jury. The second trial resulted in a jury finding Hayne guilty of two counts of sexual assault, sentencing him to five years and nine months in jail. Hayne has denied the allegations.
The Court of Appeal quashed the conviction and he walked free on February 15. In March, the Director of Public Prosecutions announced they would elect to try Hayne a third time
