Reds bosswon’ttakeRoarforgranted

CAUTIOUS Adelaide United coach Carl Veart is wary of a Brisbane Roar team he believes is better than the ALeague ladder indicates.

The Reds will guarantee themselves finals football by defeating the Roar at Coopers Stadium on Saturday night.

But despite the Roar being in second-last spot on the table and out of finals contention, Veart isn’t taking a win for granted.

“Brisbane play some really good football,” Veart said.

“They’ve been a bit unfortunate this year. They just haven’t scored goals.

“We’re a little bit in the same boat. It’s just about taking your chances when you’re in control of games.

“If you don’t take your chances when you’re in control of games, you always give the opposition an opportunity. We’ll be very careful with the way we approach this game.”

With his side having two regular season games remaining, Veart wants the Reds to take momentum into the finals rather than just limp into the top six.

“We know we still need to pick up points to guarantee a finals spot,” he said.

“We want to make sure we go into finals, if we make it, with good form.”

Veart remains in no rush to recalled sidelined pair Kusini Yengi (quad) and Michael Jakobsen (groin).

“We’ve given them both an extra week to be ready for next week (against Western United),” he said.

With Yengi still out, Reds teenage attacker Bernardo Oliveira, the son of club legend Cassio, is hoping for further game time and to add to his goals tally after scoring in Adelaide’s 2-0 home win over Perth Glory last Sunday.

“It was an incredible feeling scoring in front of the home fans – it’s something that every kid in Adelaide dreams of,” the 18-year-old winger said.

“I feel like I’m progressing pretty well in the team.”
