HANG ON TO YOUR SEATS FOR BULL RIDE OF YOUR LIFE
THE best bull riders in Australia will strut their stuff at the Great Northern Bull Riding Series set for Kerribee Park in Mareeba on May 21.
Mareeba Rodeo Association president Peter Brown said it was the first time for 18 months the event would be held on the Tablelands.
“It’ll be good to have them back, and the biggest thing is that all proceeds from the Northern Series are donated to Mareeba Hospital Foundation,” Mr Brown said.
“They don’t use our bucking chutes, they bring their own chutes and arena so people can get up nice and close.
“It’ll be an action-packed event and we’re going to see some of the best bull riders, from Brisbane, Mackay and Rockhampton as well as some really good local cowboys,” he said.
Gates open at 5pm with the main event starting at 7pm.
Hot showers and free camping are available Saturday night, there will be food stalls, the bar will be open until late and there will be an after-party with a country DJ at the grounds.
Mareeba Rodeo Association is gearing up for its annual rodeo festival with the rodeo to be held on July 9.
“Last year with Covid we limped in and limped out, this year it will be a full festival with the rodeo queen contest and downtown parade and involvement from all the little
community associations,” Mr Brown said.
The two-week festival will encompass the Agricultural Show, a garden competition, window dressing competition, art show, ute muster, wood chopping, and horse sports.
The ABCRA-affiliated rodeo will feature a State of Origin competition. Visit www.mareebarodeo.com.au.
