Tyzone in good shape ahead of tilt at Archer

-

THE Tolga Tornado is listed as a rank outsider at The Archer but owner Tom Hedley is confident he could produce a good run at Rockhampton.

Tyzone was listed at $26 at 6.30pm on Friday, well behind favourite Apache Chase ($2.50).

While Tyzone’s recent form doesn’t make for happy reading – he’s not finished higher than seventh since winning the Stradbroke Handicap in 2020 – Hedley said the eight-year-old gelding was travelling well.

“He hasn’t much luck,” he said. “He’s been carrying some big weights, we’ve drawn bad barriers or the tracks just haven’t suited.

“But every report we’ve got says that he’s looking good.

“He’s been targeted to this for the past 10 to 12 weeks. We’ve stuck to that, and he’s been handling it well.”

As for what’s next, it will depend on how he runs at Rockhampton on Saturday.

“If he doesn’t perform well we’ll bring him back up and get him in the paddock,” he said.

“If he goes well, we’ll look for what’s next.”
