Historic pub for sale
AN OPPORTUNITY to own one of the Far North’s most iconic pubs is up for grabs, and potentially for a steal.
Mossman’s Exchange Hotel has been listed by CRE Brokers with offers over $775,000 sought for the historic piece of real estate.
The Front Street watering hole has sat proudly over the major intersection in the sugarcane town for almost 90 years, and boasts a massively underused floor size of 1227sq m.
Selling agent Tom Noonan said the famous old Queenslander had already garnered plenty of interest since hitting the market less than two weeks ago.
“We’ve already held inspections and people are definitely keen,” he said.
“This is a great opportunity for the right operator to rebuild a consistently wellperforming hotel in the Tropical North.
“Mossman is the gateway to the spectacular Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation which are high level attractions for visitors and locals.”
Tourist numbers are expected to increase in the remote township this year, as southern holiday-makers return to Port Douglas, making the Exchange Hotel an attractive opportunity according to Douglas Shire councillor Lisa Scomazzon
She said “it was a shame” the bar had been left without any drinkers but hoped a buyer would quickly pounce and “bring it back to life”.
“It’s a heritage listed building and was once the heart of the town,” she said.
“It’s got enormous potential
and I hope someone will bring it back to life before too long.
“I think they will.”
The pub, which sits on a generous 1438sq m block, was built in 1934 and is expected to fetch nibbles from Victorian and NSW buyers.
It’s being sold as vacant possession and is one of three hotels in the small, rural community.
It was last under new management in 2020, launching a fresh menu, bar and kitchen before the pandemic severely impacted trade.
