THREE IN A ROW FOR SUE’S SWEET DELIGHTS

- ALISON PATERSON

FOR the third year in a row, bespoke cake artist Sue Bertuch has taken out top spot at the Tropical North Queensland Wedding Industry Awards.

The awards celebrate the range of Far North businesses who ensure thousands of weddings each year go off without a hitch, with a number of categories up for grabs.

Mrs Bertuch, 65, who is based halfway been Edmonton and Gordonvale and runs Sue’s Sweet Delights, said the award was “an honour”.

“This award is not something you nominate yourself for,” she said.

“I was fortunate to be nominated by couples I have made cakes for and I am thrilled that they thought so much of my work to make their day special.”

Mrs Bertuch said she was motivated to create a “simply elegant” cake to suit the happy couple’s vision for their big day.

Since 2018 she has won four awards and also been named in the top 10 nationally at the Australian Wedding Awards.

“I love decorating cakes because I love to see the joy on someone’s face when you create something they love,” she said.

“At the moment the demand is for rustic-chic buttercream cakes covered in flowers that look simple and beautiful.”
