Building on Tully sites

CONSTRUCTION is under way at a number of locations across the Cassowary Coast following the sale of all 18 properties previously owned by Cassowary Coast Regional Council in a Tully residential subdivision.

As a part of the 2020/21 budget, CCRC began a significant review of its assets. This process identified a number of lots for disposal and in 2020 the council resolved to commence a tender process on a subdivision of 18 vacant resiity

dential lots located in Tully, which had been assessed as not providing return or community benefit.

Division 4 Councillor Nick Pervan said the sale of the lots generated $682,500 and would help support future communprojects.

“Over the past two years, we have seen a huge uptake in individuals and families who want to take advantage of the relaxed lifestyle and beautiful environment we have on offer and with an influx of new residents, many people have struggled to find appropriate housing,” he said.

“The 18 lots have successfully been sold, with some buyers already well into the construction phase on these blocks which is a great outcome for the community.

“Another lot is currently under contract and is due for settlement in May.

The 18 lots at Tully weren’t the only publicly owned land sold, with the council also selling a house and land package at Quarry Rd, Stoters Hill, and it has now endorsed recommendations to release for public tender a property at Ranch Rd, Munro Plains.

However, CCRC also resolved to hang on to two properties previously identified for rationalisation – 41 Owen St, Innisfail, and lot 1 at Scullen Ave, Mighell.

The former of those two was offered to an adjoining land owner who had rejected the council’s offer, but now the property has been recognised as containing “historical arrangements” and councillors decided it would be “premature” to sell the lot before the completion of the Innisfail CBD master plan.

Meanwhile, Lot 1 at Scullen Ave, which CCRC acquired through an arrears of rates auction in 2012, was identified as providing minimal value through a sale, as well as minimal cost to ratepayers for holding on to the land.
