ON MILLIONS OF DOLLARS FAILING TO STOP ITINERANTS TRASHING THE CAIRNS ‘BRAND’ WITH THEIR ANTISOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

Something that might help... availability of social housing and better funding for homeless services

Katie McKeown

A lot of homeless people have their own lifestyle choices to thank for making themselves homeless.

Sue Savill

Sue Savill sad though as many homeless people were just down on their luck. Some terrible tragedy lead to their situation. Many suffer from mental health. We should all look and this and think “there but for the grace of God” as any of us could end up like them. In a highly developed first world country I find it appalling that we have no support for this category and just accept their life stay and judge them. We have no idea what lead them to being there.

Luigi Primo Porcu

Sue Savill I agree with you

Jane Teeuws

Inconvenient truth!

I have never seen so many drunks along the esplanade as there has been these past few months. You rarely saw groups of itinerants down there but they seem to be there everyday now. Karen Turner

The solution isn’t throwing money at the problem. The people being paid to clean up the problem have no incentive to clean it up because then the money dries up. You need to shift the problem. Sweep these people up, and get them in to mental care facilities. Put the money in to mental care facilities so that these people can have some assistance in turning their life around and you clear the streets at the same time

Matt de Lange for that to work they need to want to change

I’d say drunks in the CBD is part of the FNQ brand.

Bring Albenese in to see what we have up here in Cairns

Jane Teeuws

Jane Teeuws Well, Scomo and Spud had 10 years to do something about it. It’s not a new problem.

It’s about time it got a facelift.. Tim Cherry

How sad. Was such a fantastic place suited the tropical lifestyle here on the beach...

Deszree Bridget Edwards

Tragedy. Another reason to leave everything good closes. Won’t be the same vibe.

Catherine Wilson

Well a face lift should be a good thing .. but will it be too expensive and only targeted to tourists and not local friendly?

Robyn Manning
