Quality recruits lift title hopes of Marlins, Dolphins

- Jake Garland

Cairns Marlins and Dolphins have added some big recruits ahead of a massive Central Queensland double header.

The Marlins have welcomed Lachlan Anderson who recently returned to Australia following a stint playing in Macedonia.

Anderson explained that he had Taipans assistant coach Will Lopez to thank for his move to the Far North. “I have known Will for a couple of years down in Sydney and I played with his brother last year in Bankstown,” Anderson said.

“He just hit me up one day and asked if I wanted to come and play up north.

“It was an easy opportunity and an easy yes and it all just sort of went from there.”

The 206cm forward graduated from Eastern Kentucky

University before playing in the NBL1 East competition last year where he averaged 24 points and 6 rebounds.

Anderson is hopeful this opportunity helps him continue on his path the NBL.

“I wanted to come home and get the opportunity to play basketball here,” Anderson said.

“It will be good to play basketball in some warmer weather that’s for sure.”

Meanwhile, the Dolphins have signed Jennifer Coleman, who was the first US Naval Academy player to be named a Division 1 All-American.

Coleman has experience throughout Greece, Poland and Czech Republic and is excited to make Cairns her new home.

“I have never been to Australia, so this is my first time and Cairns is such a beautiful place,” Coleman said.

“I am just looking forward to getting on the court and playing with these girls.

“They have been great from the minute I walked in, everyone has been really helpful.

“I love playmaking and rebounding so hopefully my game works with these girls and I can do what they need me to do.”

Cairns will head down the highway to take on Mackay on Saturday before facing Rockhampton on Sunday.
