Lachie gets job done
Stawell trainers Terry and Karina O’sullivan shared some of the spoils at the latest Ararat meeting.
The O’sullivan team saddled up their consistent stayer Lachie’s A Star in a 2000-metre handicap at benchmark 64 level.
Ridden by Dean Holland, the seven-year-old was given a patient ride, settling well back after the jump.
Lachie’s A Star put himself into the race, steadily making ground from the 600-metre mark. When in the straight, the son of Librettist came home with a barnstorming finish.
Lachie’s A Star showed great tenacity and turn of foot to run down Centenary Shot and claim victory in the shadows of the post.
Lachie’s A Star has been a handy money-spinner for his connections, boasting six wins and 15 minor placings from 53 starts, for earnings of $105,223.
Linda takes honours
Leading jockey Linda Meech took riding honours in Ararat with a winning double. Meech was successful aboard Rockmeartie in a 1300-metre fillies and mares maiden, and Inn Keeper in a 1100-metre maiden plate for Robert Kingston and Symon Wilde respectfully. Meech also scored on Bell Burgess at Ballarat the day prior.
Dean’s Ballarat treble
Horsham jockey Dean Yendall continued his great form, with a winning treble at Ballarat on Sunday.
All three of Yendall’s successes came through long-time supporter and premier trainer Darren Weir.
Yendall rode the first two winners of the day, Hectopascal, in a 1200-metre maiden, and Arcadia Lane in a 1400-metre maiden plate.
He then had to wait until the penultimate event, booting home Poppiholla in a benchmark 64 race over 2200 metres to complete his winning day.
