Bellfield fishing

-

Stawell and District Angling Club members tested the waters at Lake Bellfield near Halls Gap for a points competition with 17 anglers catching a total of 15 fish.

First place went to John Smith with four fish weighing 1.15 kilogram, Narelle Smith was second with three fish at 750 grams and third went to Tracey Keilar with one fish weighing in a 463 grams.

A heaviest-fish prize went to John Smith with a redfin weighing in at 479 grams.

As we head into autumn the expectations are for a big few months of fishing across the region.

The autumn weather is usually ideal to get out into the boat or onto a bank and the lakes are producing all sorts of good fish.

While we’ve had a few hot days, milder weather will diminish the risk of blue-green algae and produce what many expect to be some of the best fishing conditions in years.

The big Horsham Fishing Competition is coming up and the Wimmera River is looking good with reports of nice yellowbelly being landed near the Riverside area.

There will be a lot of people about Horsham on the Labour Day weekend with expectations that entry numbers will be up on previous years.

Horsham Angling Club’s next competition will be on the Murray River from midnight March 17 until 1pm, March 19.

Registration will be from 5pm to 7pm, March 15 at Horsham angling clubrooms and a weigh-in will be at Robinvale lock.
