College announces Legally Blonde cast
Performers in Horsham College’s latest production are busy learning their lines after securing roles in Legally Blonde Junior.
Producer Yolande Grosser said student actors, singers and dancers met for a read-through last week following the announcement of this year’s cast.
Shanae Thomas, who will portray protagonist Elle Woods in the musical, said she was thrilled to land the role made famous by Reece Witherspoon – a sorority girl who attempts to win back her ex-boyfriend by obtaining a law degree.
“It is so suited to me,” she said.
“I’m really excited to take on the character of Elle and get to do what she does.”
Shanae will be joined on stage by a real dog, with Jasper to play the role of Bruiser.
She said she was not daunted by the prospect of working with animals.
“Jasper will be good. It’ll be awesome to have him on the stage,” she said.
Liam Robertson, who will play Elle’s love interest Emmett Richmond, and Oscar O’brien, who will portray Professor Callahan, are also excited about this year’s production.
Liam said he looked forward to performing with everyone.
“I’m keen to take on a more challenging role – I’ve got to be older and taller,” he said.
Oscar will also take on a new challenge.
“I’ve never gotten to be a villain before so it will be good to be a villain in this,” he said.
Cast members will learn their lines individually ahead of rehearsals in May.
“Because our director Emily Freidrichsen is also fulfilling a leading role in Horsham Arts Council’s current production of Annie, she sent students away with instructions to come back in May with all of their lines memorised so they can begin rehearsals with books down,” Mrs Grosser said. “When the read-through got rolling, it became obvious that the audition and casting process was a triumph – the acting, accents and singing we heard last week certainly indicate we will have another hugely entertaining show for Horsham College to showcase stage craft.”
Horsham College will present Legally Blonde Junior in Horsham Town Hall on September 14, 15 and 16.
