Women’s day celebrations

-

The Wimmera will celebrate International Women’s Day 2017 at Horsham Town Hall on Wednesday next week.

Guests will hear stories from Horsham district speakers at the event, which aims to recognise and celebrate the spirit and calibre of women in the community.

Horsham Mayor Pam Clarke said the celebration represented the third year in a row people had gathered in Horsham for the event.

“International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women,” she said.

“The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.”

Pam Capstick, who will emcee the event, said the occasion was not just for women.

“This isn’t a woman-only event but a community-wide event where everyone is encouraged to support better outcomes for women,” she said.

The theme of this year’s event Will You #Beboldforchange.

Speakers include Kate Dooley, Rebecca Burns, Stacy Whitehorse and Maureen O’day who will use the occasion to share their stories.

The International Women’s Day celebration is a joint event between Horsham Rural City Council, Horsham Town Hall, Rotary Club of Horsham East, Barwon Casa-minerva Community Services, and Women’s Health Grampians.
