Dance season in full swing

-

Hamilton Lamb Memorial Hall’s 2017 dance season is in full swing, with dancers enjoying a range of styles throughout the past couple of months.

Attendees have participated in old-time, line and rock ‘n’ roll sessions, with the hall – in Kalkee Road, Horsham – booked for different types of dancing at least three nights a week.

On the remaining nights, the hall hosts carpet bowls.

Hall committee member Susan Hogan said organisers were pleased with the amount of activity in the hall.

“The hall continues to provide the community with a venue where the enjoyable, social activity of dancing can be carried out on a great dance floor and indoor bowls can be played in a pleasant environment,” she said.

“Thursday night carpet bowls would be happy to welcome new bowlers.”

Ms Hogan said the number of participants at old-time dances had increased.

“It is very pleasing to see people are enjoying coming along and having a go at a new pastime or just reviving an old pleasure,” she said.

Forty people attended Horsham’s first Dance for Cancer for 2017 on February 7.

The hall committee hosted its first dance on February 10, with about 34 dancers taking to the floor.

“This was 10 more people than the same time last year,” Ms Hogan said.

“A good – although very hot – time was had by all. Our airconditioning and fans were worked to the maximum.”

Ms Hogan said hall dances were open to everyone.

“If you are looking for some light exercise and a challenge, come along and try old-time dancing,” she said.

“Hall dances are on the second Friday of each month, except Easter this year, until December, plus we have a New Year’s Eve dance.”

The next hall dance will be on Friday night, with music provided by Carmel Phelan.
