‘House’ among the branches
There was some great fun to be had last month with Wimmera Landcare’s Trees of the Wimmera series.
February was Treehouse Tree month, where people submitted photographs and stories of favourite trees.
One photo came from Bob Wallace from his Fyans Creek property of a giant redgum, Eucalyptus camaldulensis that has stood many a battle over time.
Another fantastic tree house came from Wonwondah East on the property of Andrew Entwistle.
Andrew’s tree house was built about 15 or 16 years ago for two little girls and featured everything that was required of a modern tree house of the time.
It stands in a fantastic, shady yellow box, Eucalyptus melliodora, on the banks of Burnt Creek and was built out of scrap materials with a flying fox down to the creek bank, fireman’s pole and a sand pit in the shade underneath.
It features a main room, bullnose veranda front and back and fantastic views of the Grampians in the distance.
What more could a child want to wile away the hours and work on your imagination?
This month’s competition will be based on the best paddock tree.
Cut-off for entries is March 24. People are encouraged to view the Trees of the Wimmera facebook page, where photos and stories can be sent.
Photos and stories can also be posted or delivered to: Bronwyn Bant at email admin@ platypus.org.au; Lisa Oliver at Lisa.oliverrlf@gmail.com; Ray Zippel at zippelr@wcma.vic. gov.au or delivered or posted to Wimmera Catchment Management Authority, 24 Darlot Street Horsham, 3400.
