Hair no Moore: Torri raises money for cancer
After six years with dreadlocks, Horsham’s Torri Moore decided it was time for a change.
But instead of simply heading to a hairdresser, Mr Moore chose to generate interest in losing his locks to raise money for an important cause.
“I figured if I was going to cut off all my hair, I wanted to make sure I did it for a cause. I’m doing it to raise money to beat blood cancer,” Mr Moore said.
“I’ve seen ads for World’s Greatest Shave, and a few of my mates from Naracoorte, where I’m from, have done it, so I decided to follow in their footsteps.”
Mr Moore said he was more than ready for a decent chop. “Six years is long enough,” he said. “It’s hard to deal with when I’m trying to sleep at night and I have to tie it up. It’s also annoying to wash.”
A group of proud friends, family members and co-workers gathered at Mr Moore’s workplace, Horsham Hydraulics, for the shave.
Hairdresser Cassie Mackley lopped off each dreadlock, one by one, before tidying Mr Moore’s hair with clippers.
Mr Moore said his new hairstyle made him feel ‘fresh’. “I feel a bit naked actually,” he said. “I’m looking forward to having a shower and feeling the water on my head.” Mr Moore’s efforts have raised more than $700 for World’s Greatest Shave, a Leukaemia Foundation campaign that raises money to beat blood cancer.

It also funds vital research so more people can survive blood cancers such as lymphoma, leukaemia and myeloma.
Horsham Hydraulics owner Richard Nagorcka said he was proud of Mr Moore’s efforts. “I think it’s great,” he said. “We are more than happy to support Torri. It’s great to see someone go to such an effort for an important cause.”
