Bottling back at Natimuk Show

A prize for a new section in a jams and preserves section of Natimuk’s 125th show will have the region’s bottlers and preservers working overtime.

Preserving company Fowlers, long associated with people making the most of seasonal fruit and vegetables, is donating a Fowlers preserving kit as first prize.

The firm is also providing a preserving book for the section ‘Creative presentation of four items’ from the Natimuk Show jams and preserves schedule.

Natimuk Show is on from 9am to 9pm on Saturday.

Show jams and preserves steward Meg Sleeman said the chance to win would come down to entries where at least two items were preserved using the Fowlers method.

“An an entry could include a bottle of apricots and a bottle of tomatoes preserved using the Fowlers method, as well as an ordinary bottle of tomato sauce and perhaps a jar of jam,” she said.

“The creative presentation is only limited by the imagination, and any items listed in the show schedule jams and preserves section can be included.

“Many people remember the rows of beautiful preserves and fruit in our mothers’ and grandmothers’ kitchens. Now the clock is turning full circle, and preserving is becoming ever more popular as people realise both the financial and health benefits of preserving seasonal fruit and vegetables so we can enjoy them year-round.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to let your imagination loose and win your own Fowlers’ kit as well as a preserving book with ideas for what to do with the kit.”

Natimuk Show features a variety of attractions and will end with a fireworks display.
