Grampians win

While Buangor is Grampians Cricket Association A Grade premier and can justifiably claim to be the best team, having defeated the other three finalists in their last three matches, there were also finals winners in the other two senior grades.

Youth Club, which had dropped back from A Grade, had the perfect outcome, going through the season undefeated.

Youth Club beat Navarre in a tense grand final at Central Park to win B Grade’s Hunt Shield.

Youth Club won the toss and invited Navarre to bat.

Navarre got to 37 before the first wicket fell, but after that, wickets tumbled regularly to see the Grasshoppers dismissed for 101.

Best of the Navarre batsmen was Bradley Slorach with 22, and Youth Club was best served by bowlers Cam Kimber, 4-21, and Koby Stewart, 3-23.

Youth Club’s turn at the crease saw it make 155, with opener Ethan Marrow scoring 33 and Koby Stewart and Jarrod Illig both chipping in with 29.

Veteran Phil Hall was the best of the bowlers with 4-22.

Navarre’s second innings saw the Grasshoppers reach 154, with Bradley Slorach again top-scoring with 77 and supported by Lachlan Slorach, who made 44.

Kimber was again the best of the Clubbers’ bowlers with 5-44.

This left Youth Club with 103 to win. At 3-14 Navarre would have sensed an upset, but veteran Jamie Solyom came to the rescue with an unbeaten 58 to see the Clubbers reach 7-104 and victory.

In C Grade, Willaura won the Commonwealth Bank Shield with two straight wins over Halls Gap in the best of three one-day finals.

In game one, Willaura scored 3-72 to defeat Halls Gap, 65, with star of the match Ryan Townsend finishing with figures of 3-6.

In game two, Willaura, 2-112, with Scott Ford 50 not out, defeated Halls Gap, 106, to crown its return to Grampians cricket with a premiership.
