Quail-hunting season gets underway
Quail-hunting season has started with authorities urging hunters to follow rules and regulations.
Game Management Authority chief executive Greg Hyams said open hunting seasons for hog deer and hound hunting for sambar deer also opened on Saturday.
“It is every hunter’s responsibility to ensure they know and follow the rules and regulations regarding each season,” he said.
“Stubble quail are mostly hunted on private property with permission from the landowner or manager and on 16 State Game Reserves that are also open to hunting.
“The daily bag limit is 20 birds a person. The season will close on June 30.”
The authority has reminded hunters they must be licensed, respect private property, adhere to bag limits and use firearms safely.
For information on the state’s hunting laws, hunters should refer to the Game Hunting in Victoria manual or visit the GMA website www.vic.gov.au.
The authority is also encouraging hunters and the broader public to report any suspected illegal hunting activity to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, a customer service centre on 136 186 or report it on the GMA website.
