John Clarke dies in the Grampians

Iconic Aus­tralasian comedian and po­lit­i­cal satirist John Clarke, 68, died while bush­walk­ing in Grampians Na­tional Park.

Clarke died of nat­u­ral causes af­ter col­laps­ing on a track near Mt Abrupt in the south-east Grampians about 11am, Sun­day.

Clarke had gone bush­walk­ing in the na­tional park af­ter fin­ish­ing the sec­ond-sea­son shoot­ing of ABC TV pro­gram The EX-PM on Fri­day.

Clarke, born in New Zealand, has ap­peared on Aus­tralian telelvi­sion since the late 1970s.

His death prompted an out­pour­ing of trib­utes from a broad cross sec­tion of so­ci­ety from politi­cians to the en­ter­tain­ment fra­ter­nity.
