Appeal aiming to beat last year’s target
Horsham Good Friday Appeal co-ordinator Stephen Carman has encouraged Wimmera people to donate what they can towards this year’s fundraising effort.
The Horsham Fire Brigade member said organisers aimed to beat last year’s target of $64,000 for the Royal Children’s Hospital on Friday.
“We normally grow the amount each year, which is a good thing,” he said.
“Wimmera people are very generous.”
Horsham, Jung and Vectis brigade members will again be out in force to collect money on Friday morning.
“Trucks and collectors will be on the street from 9.30am,” Mr Carman said.
“We’ll have about 50 people collecting in the streets of Horsham, Riverside and Haven. If people aren’t home when the trucks are going past they can come down to the Horsham station and donate on the day. We’ll be taking on-site donations from 9.30am.”
Mr Carman said several people and organisations ran Good Friday fundraising activities year-round, which would go towards Horsham’s total.
He said volunteers would collect donations at Horsham traffic lights at the intersection of Firebrace and Wilson streets; May Park and KFC on Dimboola Road; and Baillie and Mcpherson streets.
The Good Friday Appeal raises money for the Royal Children’s Hospital to continue to provide first-class care for Victoria’s children. Mr Carman, in his second year as Horsham appeal co-ordinator, has been involved in the fundraising effort most of his life.
“I’ve probably been collecting for the Good Friday Appeal since I was about four,” he said.
“I like to be able to help the sick kids in need. I spent a bit of time there as a kid and it’s a way to say thanks.
“If we can beat last year’s total it would be fantastic.”
