School volleyball in spotlight
A big day of school volleyball awaits on Monday when teams from five schools descend on St Brigid’s College and Horsham Basketball Stadium for the School Sport Victoria Senior and Intermediate Black Ranges volleyball competition.
The day will see boys and girls attempt to qualify for Greater Western Zone finals, with those winners moving on to state finals next month.
In the senior boys division Murtoa will start favorite. The team will be capably led by Jayden Mcqueen and Jordy Weidemann.
This group of boys has performed consistently at this level for several years and was state champions in 2015.
The senior girls should see Horsham College progress through with a team consisting of strong players Emily Hannan, Brittany Baker and Tamikah Dockrill.
The intermediate boys division will see the St Brigid’s College boys start favorites.
Capably led by Will Brennan, Aidan O’connor and John Kearns these boys qualified for state finals last year in the year eight division, and have improved since then.
They will be pushed by Horsham College’s boys team, which has many players who are capable of causing an upset.
The intermediate girls division will be the closest fought competition.
Lutheran has been consistent at domestic level, while Horsham College has some developing players who will make it interesting.
Murtoa could be the smokey depending on how it structures its team, while St Brigid’s has a group of girls who have been training consistently.
