Demons a game clear in top spot

- BY JONATHAN BOX

With Mininera and District Football League round-12 wins to Tatyoon, Lismore-derrinallum, Penshurst, SMW Rovers, Wickliffe-lake Bolac and Moyston-willaura, Lismorederrinallum remains on top and a game clear of Moyston-willaura.

This week a big game will be between two flag favourites in Tatyoon and WickliffeLake Bolac. The Magpies are sitting just ahead of Tatyoon on the ladder, however, the winner this week will go a game clear into third position.

Both teams had relatively easy victories at the weekend, with Tatyoon defeating Ararat Eagles by 13 goals and Wickliffe-lake Bolac 16-goal victors over Glenthompsondunkeld.

Wickliffe-lake Bolac had a good start on Glenthompson-dunkeld and was able to keep its opponent goal-less in the first half and with a 13-goal second half cruised home.

Danniel Smith managed four goals in his 400th game, while Bailey Veale and Rhys Otto contributed three goals apiece. Harley Hunter, Bradley Keilar and Taylor Hall did most of the heavy lifting around the ground.

Coach Adrian Pilgrim led the charge for Tatyoon, booting 10 goals, with David Brady the next best on three. Jarrod Blandford and Tim Mcdougall were again major ball winners for the Hawks and combining with their dominant forward line, the team is certainly coming good at the right end of the season.

Hawkesdale-macarthur, coming off a 10goal loss to Lismore-derrinallum, will want to redeem itself when it takes on Penshurst, with the winner finishing in fifth position.

With Lachy Reichman, Brady Purcell and Benjamin Gow all playing well for the Eagles, Hawkesdale-macarthur managed to stick with the Demons until half time, going into the main break only five points down.

However, a six-goal-to-one third quarter and six-goal-to-two final term saw the fate sealed for the visiting team.

Penshurst, on the other hand, got a good start when it hosted Caramut and was able to win every quarter. Sam Weston and Joseph Franklin were best players, while Grant Ewing kicked three for the third time and James Dalton also contributed three.

In other games, Moyston-willaura will be set for an easy game against Ararat Eagles, Woorndoo-mortlake should notch up another win against Great Western, Glenthompson-dunkeld will try its best to knock off Lismore-derrinallum and SMW Rovers will try to keep its finals hopes alive when it travels to Caramut to take on the Swans.
