Youth fo­cus at sec­ond sum­mit

The aim of a sec­ond Yar­ri­ambi­ack Youth Sum­mit at War­rackn­abeal on Au­gust 18 will aim to en­gage, in­spire and em­power peo­ple in the re­gion aged be­tween 12 and 25.

The sum­mit will be at War­rackn­abeal Town Hall from 10am to 2pm and fea­ture a list of guest speak­ers as well as live mu­sic.

Yar­ri­ambi­ack Youth Ac­tion Coun­cil, Yar­ri­ambi­ack Shire Coun­cil, FREEZA and the Vic­to­rian De­part­ment of Jus­tice and Reg­u­la­tion have joined forces to present the event.

Speak­ers in­clude do­mes­tic vi­o­lence sur­vivor Si­mone O’brien, cy­ber bulling and on­line safety ex­pert Brett Lee, wheel­chair bas­ket­baller Jan­nik Blair and youth sup­port and ad­vo­cacy ser­vices ex­pert Ho­race Wans­bor­ough, who will speak about al­co­hol and cannabis.

War­rnam­bool band Runk will pro­vide mu­sic for the event.

Or­gan­is­ers ex­pect the sum­mit to at­tract more than 300 peo­ple from across the re­gion.

The youth fo­cus will shift from War­rackn­abeal in the day to Mur­toa Col­lege in the evening.

A Ramp It Rage It Stage It Bat­tle of the Bands heat, part of the State Gov­ern­ment’s FREEZA pro­gram, will be at Mur­toa from 6.30pm to 9pm.

Runk will head­line the free show, with prizes up for grabs.
