Challenge returns to Wartook Valley
More than 100 competitors and their support crews will flock to Wartook Valley in the northern Grampians in September as part of the Grampians Challenge endurance event.
Set for September 17, the event is made up of three legs – a 10-kilometre run, nine-kilometre kayak paddle and 35-kilometre mountain-bike ride.
Event co-ordinator Maria Plyashechko said 2017 would represent the third year of the challenge.
“The 2017 Grampians Challenge will showcase some of the most spectacular views the northern Grampians has on offer including Mackenzie Falls, Wartook Valley and the Mt Difficult Range,” she said.
“We are looking forward to bringing even more excitement to the event this year.”
Registration will open on the Saturday night, which will give participants and their crews an opportunity to enjoy the Wartook Valley at a slower pace before the main event on the Sunday.
Event director Serge Kurov said floods last year had forced organisers to postpone the event from September to November.
“But this year we are still trying to bring it into September to show the beautiful spring colours of the Grampians,” he said.
