Gwmwater is discharging recycled water into Wimmera and Hopkins rivers.
Managing director Mark Williams said water from Horsham and Ararat wastewater treatment plants going into the rivers was ‘Class C’ and met Environment Protection Authority requirements.
He said rain had led to a significant rise to water held in storage in the plants and wet-weather discharges would occur throughout August.
“The discharge is not expected to create any adverse environmental impacts,” Mr Williams said.
Gwmwater has developed management plans detailing proposed discharges and a water-quality monitoring program and details will be available on Gwmwater’s website.
Gwmwater is encouraging people keen to discuss details to contact them during business hours on 1300 659 961 or online at www.gwmwater.org.au
