Milestone for spring festival
Horsham Spring Garden Festival is approaching a major milestone and organisers are keen for many people and exhibitors to get involved.
The festival, at Horsham Botanic Gardens, will have its 30th anniversary on October 14 and 15.
Festival spokeswoman Sonia Matthews said a group of dedicated volunteers kept the popular, annual event running.
“We have a handful of volunteers who put the festival together. It would be great to have more hands on deck,” she said.
“We would love to see more garden-based businesses, groups and organisations come forward to exhibit. We would also welcome people who can add to the gardening and local cuisine experience we’re trying to promote at the festival.
“This is because, after all, what’s better than after you’ve toiled in the garden to relax and enjoy something to drink or nibble on.
“Importantly, we want people or businesses with gardening expertise to come forward and be part of the occasion. It’s not simply about Horsham, it has historically involved exhibitors from across the region and beyond.
“All sites in the exhibition area are readily accessible to promote patron engagement.”
This year’s festival will again feature guest speakers, including television gardening presenter Melissa King and garden environment authority Denis Crawford of Pomonal.
Organisers have also joined forces with Horsham Urban Landcare, which is planning interactive gardening activities for children. There will be competitions and patrons will again be able to buy plants and products.
People keen to get involved or to register as an exhibitor can call secretary Terry O’donnell on 5384 7474.
