Eighth medal for Hor­sham hoop Yen­dall

Pro­lific Hor­sham hoop Dean Yen­dall has claimed his eighth Neville Wil­son Medal at Coun­try Rac­ing Vic­to­ria’s an­nual awards night.

Yen­dall was again the dom­i­nant jocket on coun­try Victorian race­tracks dur­ing the 2016-17 sea­son, claim­ing his sev­ent Neville Wil­son Medal in suc­ces­sion and eighth in to­tal.

Yen­dall had 633 starts for 127 wins this sea­son. He won the medal de­spite miss­ing most of the fi­nal month af­ter a fall at Mil­dura.

Yen­dall fin­ished six wins clear of Linda Meech, with Jamie Mott third on 94 wins.

It was a land­mark sea­son for Yen­dall, who broke through for the first Group 1 wins of his long ca­reer, claim­ing the Spring Cham­pion Stakes on Yan­kee Rose and the Myer Clas­sic on I Am A Star.
