Theatre opportunity for Ruby

The Weekly Advertiser Horsham - - News -

Horsham College year-10 student Ruby Risson has been accepted into a Bell Shakespeare Company work experience program in Sydney.

She is one of only 12 students from across Australia, and one of only two from Victoria, to win selection.

The program gives students an opportunity to go behind the scenes of a professional theatre company, participate in drama workshops, sit in on audition panels, learn about production casting, running rehearsals and more.

Ruby had to write a short essay, cover letter and resume to complete her application along with responses to short-answer questions.

She impressed a selection panel with an insightful response to ‘Why she feels connected to Shakespeare’.

Her response was an in-depth analysis that a selection panel member described as being ‘above and beyond any application they had ever received for the program’.

Ruby already has theatre experience. She performed the lead role in Horsham College’s 2014 production of Alice in Wonderland as well as participating in the 2015 and 2016 school productions.

Her study in a year-nine drama program helped Ruby develop her love of Shakespeare.
