Games won early in Stawell Friday night tennis proved to be the difference as both victors held early leads.

Stawell Toyota led by 16 games after the first group of matches and maintained this gap for most of the night, eventually recording an 11-game victory over David O Jones Mitre 10.

Young guns Declan Pyke and Jonah O’shannessy managed to remain unbeaten for the night, with O’shannessy scoring an impressive 8-0 win in his singles match against Will Mcdermott.

Mitre 10’s women tried to give their team the victory with Kim Hutton and Courtney Ellen winning their three sets, but it was not to be.

In the night’s other match Frewstal kept hold of top spot with another solid win over Farrers Tyrepower.

Frewstal also led by 16 games after the first group of matches but had big wins in final sets to extend the final total to a 30-game triumph.

Chris Simpkin and Jamie Bach were the best for Frewstal, while Farrers Tyrepower’s David Simpkin played a lone hand in winning his three sets, the best an 8-1 result in mixed competition with Bridget Johnson.

This week the top two teams meet in match of the round with Frewstal and Stawell Toyota yet to taste defeat. Farrers Tyrepower will try to keep David O Jones Mitre 10 on the bottom of the ladder.
