Ismay granted role
Hindmarsh Shire councillors have elected Cr Ron Ismay as mayor for the next 12 months.
Cr Ismay represents the municipality’s north ward and is a lifelong resident, businessman and active community member of Rainbow.
He was elected to council during a by-election in 2013.
Cr Ron Lowe, also from the north ward and in his third term as a councillor, will serve as deputy mayor.
Outgoing mayor Debra Nelson – who served two terms as mayor – addressed her fellow councillors and the gallery during the council’s annual statutory meeting, paying tribute to the Hindmarsh community for its ongoing support.
Councillors Tony Schneider and Rob Gersch congratulated Cr Nelson on her service and achievements as mayor throughout the previous 12 months.
The meeting provided an opportunity to recognise the many contributions of councillors, staff and volunteers that make Hindmarsh Shire tick.
Several council staff received certificates acknowledging 10, 15, 20 and 35 years of service.
