Community Axis opens doors

The Weekly Advertiser Horsham - - News -

Community Axis has opened the doors of its new Firebrace Street offices in Horsham in a major milestone for the disability-employment services provider.

A $3-million refurbishment to establish a new base for Community Axis Employment as well as overall headquarters for Community Axis Enterprises reflects the organisation’s steady growth.

Community Axis, a community-based not-for-profit busi- ness, which started as Wimmera Jobmatch with a staff of three in 1992, now has a staff of 85 providing services across western Victoria and south-east of South Australia.

Community Axis Enterprises announced plans for a major expansion in 2012 in its development as a conduit for a long-term government-funding program.

Community Axis Enterprises general manager Colin Barnett said the new offices represented a significant change for the organisation.

“This is the first time we’ve owned a building,” he said.

“Some of us were in the McLachlan Street office for 14 years, so it’s taking a bit of getting used to. It’s bright, new and modern and reflective of the services we’re providing across the region and beyond.”

The new offices are also set to expand community activity in the northern end of Firebrace Street.
