‘The talk’

Par­ents of pri­mary and sec­ondary-age chil­dren can learn how to talk to them about re­spect­ful re­la­tion­ships, sex­u­al­ity and body safety at an in­for­ma­tion ses­sion in Hor­sham tonight.

The Talk­ing the Talk: Sex and Health Ed­u­ca­tion ses­sion will be in Wim­mera Trade Train­ing Cen­tre au­di­to­rium from 7pm to 8.30pm.

Mother of three Vanessa Hamil­ton, who has 23 years’ ex­pe­ri­ence as a sex­ual health nurse and ed­u­ca­tor, will lead the event.

She will teach par­tic­i­pants how to tai­lor con­ver­sa­tions with their chil­dren about healthy and re­spect­ful re­la­tion­ships, body and pro­tec­tive safety; what is nor­mal child­hood sex­ual be­hav­iour and de­vel­op­ment; hu­man re­pro­duc­tion; manag­ing pre-pu­berty and be­yond; pornog­ra­phy, safety and our sex­u­alised so­ci­ety.

Hamil­ton will also help par­ents choose suit­able in­for­ma­tion about sex­ual health in­clud­ing what is ap­pro­pri­ate for their fam­ily.

The ses­sion is free for Hor­sham Col­lege par­ents and gen­eral ad­mis­sion is $15.

Par­ents and car­ers from all schools in the re­gion are wel­come to at­tend, although the ses­sion is not suit­able for chil­dren.
