Buwalda joins sports star list

Hor­sham net­baller Emma Buwalda is the Oc­to­ber nom­i­nee in Wim­mera Sports Star of the Year awards.

Buwalda has had an out­stand­ing net­ball sea­son. She was a key player in Hor­sham’s A Grade net­ball team, win­ning back-to-back Demons best and fairest awards.

She also fin­ished fourth for Wim­mera Net­ball As­so­ci­a­tion’s Hatcher Medal and won a best player un­der-21 award.

Buwalda also played with the ACU Sovereigns un­der-19 de­vel­op­ment team in Bal­larat Net­ball As­so­ci­a­tion.

At the end of that sea­son, she played eight games in the Sovereigns’ un­der-19 team in Vic­to­rian Net­ball League, fin­ish­ing in the league’s top 10 for shoot­ing av­er­ages.

Buwalda won a $50 voucher from Hor­sham busi­ness The Ath­lete’s Foot.

She joins vol­ley­ballers John Kearns and Noah Bren­nan, World Dwarf Games bronze medal­list Joel Em­mett, all-abil­i­ties foot­baller Tyson Har­ris and lawn bowler Josh Barry, AFL um­pires Se­bas­tian Dal­gleish and Jack­son Wals­gott, equestri­enne Mor­gan Lane, ten­nis player St­effi Mcdon­ald, swim­mer Mi­ette Hop­per and triath­lete Ella Wals­gott as the monthly nom­i­nees.

All ath­letes are in the run­ning to col­lect the Hor­sham Sports and Com­mu­nity Club ti­tle of Wim­mera Sports Star of the Year as well as a $1000 Sports Star schol­ar­ship.

Of­fi­cials will an­nounce a win­ner at a din­ner on Fe­bru­ary 9, 2018. Nom­i­na­tions for the award close the last day of each month. Peo­ple can nom­i­nate on­line at www.wrsa.org.au.
