Clear cut results in Grampians

- BY ONE SHORT

Although round four is only half way over in Grampians Cricket Association, you wouldn’t have to be ‘Lucky Phil’ to pick all four A Grade winners for the fixture.

All results appear clear cut and it is only by what margins the wins will be that is in question.

The battle between first and second sees Swiftsgreat Western right on top of Youth Club.

Batting first, Youth Club’s innings never really got going, being dismissed for 173.

The best of the Clubbers’ batsmen was Nick Baird, 49, and skipper Cam Kimber, 45, who shared a 67-run partnership with Clinton Slorach, 22.

Combine bowlers to do the damage were Matt Heffer, five wickets, and Brady Miller, four.

In reply, the Combine ended on 1-133 just 40 runs behind with nine wickets in hand.

Youth Club would be well advised to keep taking wickets, because history shows the Combine will keep batting.

A poor Pomonal first innings has put the Tigers in danger of suffering an outright loss to Buangor. Pomonal could manage only 84 in its first dig, with the main destroyers for Buangor being Chris Jerram and Callum Baker who took three wickets each.

In reply, Buangor has reached 8-171, a lead of 87 thanks to Jack Ganley’s hard-hitting 76, and

will be sensing an opportunity to jump into the top four with an outright result.

Another team looking for outright points is Tatyoon, which posted 312 runs before having Halls Gap 5-21. The Hawks have 75 overs to take 15 wickets, with 291 runs up their sleeve.

Skipper Michael Harricks already has the remarkable bowling figures of 7-6-1-4.

Earlier, the Tatyoon innings was anchored by a century from opener Andrew Mcdougal, 104, and a half century from Owen Kean.

The only Gappers bowlers to make any impression were Jedd Gay and Charlie Mcintosh with two wickets each.

Halls Gap will really have a fight on its hands this Saturday.

Aradale posted a respectable 6-280 in its game against Navarre, which will fully test its opponents’ batting strength.

Aradale’s innings was boosted by an innings of 80 from Scotty Turner and a handy 42 from Tyler Cronin. Navarre can be expected to bat for most of the day, but 280 runs might be beyond them.

Last Sunday was the first round of an inter-regional under-21 competition, where Central Highlands took on North East Country at Castlemaine.

Although Central Highlands was soundly beaten, Chris Jerram top-scored for the Highlanders with 56 not out. Former Grampians player Harry Ganley opened the innings and scored 22.
