Top shots at Stawell range

Al­most 40 of the best long-range ri­fle shoot­ers in Aus­tralia put them­selves to the test at Stawell Ri­fle Range.

The shoot­ers gath­ered at Stawell for Victorian and Na­tional Match Ri­fle and Long Range F-class Cham­pi­onships.

The com­pe­ti­tion in­volves shoot­ing over 1000, 1100 and 1200 yards.

At Stawell, the Aus­tralian Match Ri­fle Team prac­tised on the first day of com­pe­ti­tion.

The team is prim­ing it­self for com­pe­ti­tion at Bis­ley in Eng­land in 2019.

Victorian cham­pi­onship win­ners were on the sec­ond day of com­pe­ti­tion with ti­tles go­ing to Paul Mon­aghan, Tas­ma­nia, in match ri­fle open, Shaun Win­grove, Can­berra, win­ning match ri­fle re­serve; and Lou Shal­lis, St Marys, NSW, win­ning F-class open.

The ninth Aus­tralian cham­pi­onships ran for three and a half days fol­lowed by team shoot­ing.

A match ri­fle open ti­tle went to Phillip Bain, Wagga Wagga, NSW, match ri­fle re­serve to Barry South­ern from Rosedale; F-class open to Lou Shal­lis and F-TR by Mick Pun­tur­jero.

The Victorian team won all the state team events.
