Money to preserve environment
Wimmera and Glenelg Hopkins catchment management authority area conservation groups have won grants to help preserve the region’s natural environment.
Member for Western Victoria Jaala Pulford said Wimmera groups would share in funding of $170,447 from the Victorian Landcare Grants program, with Glenelg Hopkins groups awarded a total of $191,000.
The program provides funding for Landcare and environmental volunteer groups and networks to support priority projects in the region.
As well as staff support and maintenance, larger grants have been allocated to projects that seek to improve biodiversity through revegetation and remnant vegetation enhancement and protection.
Ms Pulford said the government recognised the important role regional Landcare organisations played across western Victoria.
“This program highlights the great environmental outcomes than can be achieved through co-operation between catchment management authorities, environment groups, communities and the Victorian government,” she said.
