Money to commemorate veterans
The State Government has provided a funding boost to help the Wimmera commemorate the sacrifice of its veterans and educate the wider community about their service.
Member for Western Victoria Jaala Pulford announced money for four organisations under the Anzac Centenary Community Grant Program and the Restoring Community War Memorials and Avenues of Honour Grants Program.
The funding includes: • $16,141 for Minyip and District Historical Society to establish a memorial recognising all men from the local district who served in the First World War.
• $4955 for Brimpaen Reserve Committee of Management to restore the community’s memorial gates.
• $2910 for Dooen Public Hall for the restoration of two Great War Honour Boards.
• $2540 for Goroke War Memorial Committee to buy display cases for Goroke Memorial Hall to allow a permanent display of letters and photographs from service men and women.
“Western Victoria has a proud wartime history and it’s important we give our veterans the support and tribute they deserve,” Ms Pulford said.
“This funding will help several small communities in the Wimmera educate future generations, and allow people to better connect with the moments that shaped our history.”
