Emily’s ‘Christmas’ to feature on card

-

Member for Lowan Emma Kealy will use a design by Haven Primary School grade-five student Emily Preston as the cover for her 2017 Christmas card.

Ms Kealy invited all primary school student in her electorate to participate in a competition to design a cover for her Christmas card.

She asked the students to depict what they loved best about their area, with a touch of Christmas.

Participants also had an opportunity to explain their work in 25 words.

Emily described her drawing as ‘a few of my favourite things about Lowan including the Grampians, Green Lake and the great farm’.

Ms Kealy said several other students who produced highly commended artwork would receive a prize in appreciation of their efforts.

“The artistic talent of our youth is very impressive and it was striking how many included references to their favourite places and our recharged lakes and rivers,’’ she said.

“I wanted something meaningful that represented our great part of the state and they have certainly given me that.

‘’I am so proud of their great work and I will be displaying some of the entries in my office window.

“This is the third year I have run this competition and it will definitely be something I will do again next year.”
