Grampians switched to T20 play

- BY ONE SHORT

Grampians Cricket Association round-six games reverted to one-day fixtures to allow for the association’s T20 competition at the weekend.

Tatyoon again failed with the bat, with its second under-100 score in as many weeks, and was comfortably beaten by Buangor.

The defeats have led to the Hawks dropping from top spot to fifth on the ladder.

Batting first, Tatyoon scored just 92 with only Jarrod Blandford and skipper Michael Harricks scoring more than 20.

Spinners Chris Jerram and Lachlan Oddie took eight of the 10 wickets to fall during the innings, Oddie having the remarkable figures of 8-4-5-6, and one of those five runs was a wide.

In reply, Buangor lost just four wickets in passing Tatyoon’s score.

In another game many thought might be close, Aradale thrashed Pomonal, to leave the Tigers with just two wins for the season.

Batting first, Pomonal was restricted to 9-102 from its allotted 40 overs with young Bailey Hosemans top-scoring with 37.

Luke Jordan with 28 was the only other score of note.

Best of the Aradale bowlers was Cameron Ralph with 3-18.

Aradale comfortably passed the Tigers’ score with Captain Riley Wood notching up an unbeaten 54.

The other two matches went according to script, with Youth Club accounting for Halls Gap and Swifts-great Western defeating Navarre.

Halls Gap invited Youth Club to bat and dismissed it for 182, with Angus Barham, 41, Matt Healy, 37, and Trent Homden, 34, the main contributors.

Ben Iseppi and Adam Mccormack both took three wickets each.

Halls Gap responded with 101. The best of the Clubbers’ bowlers were Cam Kimber 3-9 and Matt Healy who recorded a fine all-round performance with 4-19.

This win leaves the Clubbers in second position on the ladder.

The remaining game saw the Combine win the toss and bat out its overs to finish with 5-194 with Sam Cocks, 48, and James Devery and Travis Nicholson 44 each, the main contributors.

T20 preliminary games will be on Saturday and a final will be Sunday.
