Tigers to celebrate

-

Jung Tigers Cricket Club will celebrate a reunion of 1996-97 and 1997-98 Jung premiership teams on January 26 and 27.

Club vice-president Ash Wright said the occasion would start with a Friday night gathering at Horsham’s White Hart Hotel and continue on Saturday at the club’s headquarters at Dimboola Road community oval pavilion.

“The reunion will also be a bit of a back-to for the overall club, which historically is made up of Pimpinio, Jung, Jung City, Horsham and Taylors Lake clubs,” he said.

“Pimpinio was also playing off in Horsham Pennant grand finals in the same era.”

Jung’s 1997-98 grand final was in the association’s second-tier A Grade against Blackheath when the Horsham association had Pennant, A, B and C grades.

Jung shared the premiership with Blackheath when the game ended in an historic tie, forcing officials to change rules for subsequent seasons.

Jung’s B Grade and junior teams played in 1996-97 premierships.

Mr Wright said the club was keen to hear from anyone involved in any of the foundation clubs as well as players from the grand finals.

“We’re keen to hear from anyone involved in any of our clubs and anyone who might have memorabilia to display,” he said.

Mr Wright said the Saturday night of the reunion, after a C Grade match at Horsham Community Oval, would be a simple gathering with finger food and drinks.

He said the occasion would also provide an opportunity for the club to celebrate new clubrooms.

He said further details were available from him on 0438 824 141.
