Bridge jump warning

Horsham Rural City Council is warning people of the danger of jumping off the city’s pedestrian bridge.

Council technical services director John Martin said the council was receiving reports of young people jumping from the middle of Anzac Centenary Bridge into the Wimmera River.

“Water levels under the bridge are shallow, with depths varying from 1.2 to 1.5 metres,” he said.

“It is extremely unsafe to jump into shallow water, and while it might seem like a bit of fun at the time, the potential exists for someone to be seriously hurt.

“Please be vigilant in ensuring your children, grandchildren, relatives and friends do not jump off the bridge into the Wimmera River. It is very dangerous and we don’t want people to get hurt.”
