Ararat hosts Queen’s Ba­ton

Ararat Ru­ral City Coun­cil hosted a leg of the Queen’s Ba­ton Re­lay last week in the lead-up to the 2018 Com­mon­wealth Games on the Gold Coast.

Ba­ton bear­ers, in­clud­ing for­mer Olympic cyclist Shane Kelly re­turn­ing to his home town, car­ried the Queen’s Ba­ton along Barkly Street, onto Al­bert Street and back along High Street be­fore en­ter­ing Alexan­dra Gar­dens.

The route was lined with en­thu­si­as­tic sup­port­ers, who then joined in celebratio­ns at Alexan­dra Oval Com­mu­nity Cen­tre.
