Trip down memory lane
Horsham Sunnyside Lutheran Retirement Village residents, family members and staff took a trip down memory lane during a special Valentine’s Day event.
Activities co-ordinator Charlene Labram said a ‘Weddings Through the Ages’ fashion parade featured about 30 gowns from the 1940s through to modern times.
“The most current dress was worn by a bride a few weeks ago and the oldest dress was from 1940,” she said.
“It was a great opportunity to showcase how fashions have changed over time.
“A lot of the gowns belonged to residents and staff and many of them were modelled by daughters or grand-daughters of the owners, which was a lovely touch.”
Mrs Labram said village residents and staff loved celebrating special events.
“We try to have a different theme for Valentine’s Day each year and this year we chose a wedding theme,” she said.
“We had a Valentine’s afternoon tea which included love-heart biscuits and prizes.
“We also had a lot of residents’ family members attend.
“It was a very special afternoon and brought back a lot of memories.”
Mrs Labram said she also ran a competition featuring wedding photos of brides and grooms associated with the village.
“The pictures are a mix of staff and residents and everyone is having a lot of fun running around guessing who is who,” she said.
