Basketballers off to championships

The Weekly Advertiser Horsham - - Sport -

Two Horsham Amateur Basketball Association teams will compete in division three and four state championships in Bendigo at the weekend.

Association junior representative director Tony Sleep said the Hornets under-18 boys and under-16 girls would fly the flag at the championships, on Saturday and Sunday.

Sleep coaches the boys team, with Damien Kilpatrick in charge of the girls outfit.

“The seven boys will have a tough schedule with four games on the first day of the championships, but I feel that the team will remain competitive throughout,” Sleep said.

“We have a good blend of speed and size as well as a solid mix of top and bottom-age players.

“Only seven players will make rotations, so it’s important to keep the guys fresh – but I have faith that the guys we are taking can have a competitive weekend.”

Sleep said Darcy Hogan, Riley Bryan, Jack Sleep and Will Griffiths were playing their final year in the junior Hornets uniform.

Ararat Redbacks will send under-16 and under-18 boys, along with under-16 girls.

Warracknabeal’s under-18 boys team will also compete.
