Tim Flannery to speak at Natimuk
Internationally acclaimed writer, scientist, explorer and conservationist Tim Flannery will speak at a Natimuk Community Energy gathering at Natimuk Soldiers Memorial Hall on Good Friday, March 30.
Mr Flannery will join in celebrating the community energy group’s projects and talk on ‘Rising to the climate challenge through empowering communities’.
Organisers have described Professor Flannery’s lecture as ‘an opportunity to be inspired and informed by one of Australia’s leading thinkers on the planet and its future’.
He will discuss how communities across Australia are creating sustainable energy and employment solutions and will outline the importance of these initiatives, as well as explain some programs that are assisting them.
Evening activities will start with a celebration of a 10-kilowatt solar installation at Natimuk Showground Shearers Shed and an update on other NCE projects. These projects include a solar farm on the eastern edge of Natimuk that will produce enough electricity to power the town.
Professor Flannery will then deliver his presentation, followed by an audience question-and-answer session.
Horsham Rural City Council has sponsored the night, which has enabled the group to keep ticket prices to $10 or $5 concession.
Organisers are urging people to pre-book online at www.trybooking.com/ujwn.
Guests have an invitation to arrive early and socialise from 6.30pm onwards. The program will start at 7.30pm.
All money generated from the gathering will support the Natimuk Solar Farm project.
