Breather for volleyballers

The Weekly Advertiser Horsham - - Sport -

Aschool holiday break will give Volleyball Horsham teams across all grades the opportunity to reassess their goals and come out hard in term two.

In A Grade, Tim Popple’s Shados Inala heads the table ahead of Loucas Vettos’s New York Nuggets, with all teams having played each other once.

Nathan Berry’s Phantoms are in third place, percentage behind the Nuggets with the young Raptors still to taste success after four rounds.

In B Grade, all teams have recorded at least one win, but it is the perennial finalists the Phantom Masters sitting on top of the ladder, ahead of the Von Steiger Shadows.

Both teams have blooded plenty of new players so far this season, but the ever consistent Vaughn Maroske and Andrew Adamson continue to show the way.

Waterhammers sit third, while the Phantom Rangers are fourth.

In C Grade, last season’s premier Murtoa Railway sits undefeated on top of the ladder clear of Piccolo Nuggets, who are beginning to form into a consistent team on the back of good work from all rounder Blake Turner and Oliver Garth-lindsay. unsettled

The Murtoa Lizards, fresh from a big win over stablemates Murtoa Mavericks, have jumped to third with a healthy percentage, ahead of HC Thunder, with the Von Steiger Shadows making up the top five.

In juniors the Iggy Kearns-led Dream Team has taken all before it so far this season and sits on top of the ladder undefeated, clear of the Murtoa Dragons, HC Rebels and Saints White, all on eight points separated only by percentage.

HC Lightning make up the top five and each team has scored at least one win. All teams have been in games each and every week, underlying the evenness of the competition.

While some teams have still to settle their line-ups, there is opportunity across all grades for individuals who might be interested in playing to get on board. People can send an expression of interest to [email protected] volleyballhor and every effort will be made to fit you into a team.

Competition will now break for school holidays and will return the week of April 16. Volleyball Horsham members involved with Phantoms won’t be resting as they prepare for their first games of the 2018 State League season on April 7 in Melbourne.
