Western Highway work underway
Work has started on a $5.1-million safety upgrade of the Western Highway between Lillimur and the South Australian border.
Victorian Regional Development Minister Jaala Pulford said improvements would help keep drivers safe on the major freight and tourism route.
Improvements include the installation of flexible safety barriers at high-risk locations, road widening, road sealing, new line markings and new rumble strips.
Ms Pulford said the works would provide greater separation between on-coming vehicles, reduce lane departures and reduce the chances of head-on and run-off-road collisions. “We’re supporting farming, tourism and manufacturing in western Victoria by making this highway more safe and reliable,” she said.
The government expects the work to be finished by mid2018.
