Art a major feature

-

Yarriambiack’s Silo Art Trail again looms as one of the most profound attractions in Warracknabeal’s Yfest celebrations.

Many visitors to Warracknabeal who have permanently pencilled in the four-day Yfest on their events calendar now travel the silos route as part of their experience.

Silos at Patchewollock, Lascelles, Rosebery, Brim, Sheep Hills and Rupanyup feature landscape-scale images from a variety of artists and have captured the attention of the worldwide arts community.

Yfest has long had a reputation for promoting fine and performing arts, from its art show at Yarriambiack Shire Council offices to buskers.

Busking plays a prominent part in the long weekend of events, with an invitation for performers to set up in the heart of Warracknabeal shopping centre in Scott Street from 9am on Saturday.

Buskers are free to pick their own spot to perform and play away to their heart’s content.

Between 12.30pm and 6pm, also on Saturday, street performers will gather in Warracknabeal’s Lions Park in an effort to win more than $2000 in prizemoney at a busking competition.

The person with the overall winning act will pocket $1000.

The creative talents of people across the shire will also be on display in an Easter Saturday street parade.

The parade, featuring everything from novelty floats and people in costumes, to a variety of vehicles, will start at 11am and be led by a town crier.

Warracknabeal Aero Club will add an extra dynamic to the event with a fly-over.

The art show, featuring work by Alison Parkinson and Peter Cougle, will be open throughout Yfest.

The exhibition also features artwork by members of Yarriambiack Youth Group.

Art show times: Friday, artist talk, 5.30pm to 7pm; Saturday, noon to 5pm; Sunday, 11am to 5pm; Monday, 11am to 3.30pm.
